Bryce Wisdom used to be a normal teenager with a normal life until March 2019. He would drive around the neighborhood in his car, he’d take the dog for a walk and he’d play football like a pro!

His whole life was ahead of him and the future looked so bright for him. But, a year ago, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Wilms’ Tumor.

Wilms’ Tumor is a rare disease that usually affects children at the age of 3 or 4 years old. It starts by affecting the kidneys and it has several stages until it affects both kidneys or the whole body.

Although it is a very serious disease, the chances of survival for affected children are very good if the right steps are followed.

Stages of treatment include surgery to remove part of or all of the kidney, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Of course, treatment methods vary depending on the stage of cancer.

And, while everything showed that Bryce was a strong young boy with an otherwise healthy body, while he fought bravely, he lost the battle to cancer a few days ago.

After Bryce was diagnosed with the rare type of cancer in March 2019, he went through 19 weeks of chemotherapy and soon he and his family thought he had overcome the problem. Until August, when it returned, according to KSAT 12.

This time things got even more serious than the first time. In September, doctors found that the cancer had spread to other parts of his body, which made treatment more difficult.

The young boy was a promising football player with the local Judson High School in Converse, Texas. When his health issue was made public, everyone was touched in the local community and soon the hashtags #LiveLikeBryce and #BryceStrong were created.

Bryce’s family also created a Facebook page where they have been sharing the teenager’s adventure, while they also started a campaign during which they sold items with the hashtags on them so that they could save money for Bryce’s medical treatment.

During all these months, Bryce’s adventure has inspired the support of his school, too.

After cancer metastasized throughout Bryce’s body, his high-school mates threw a display of support for him, before he started chemotherapy. A marching band marched before him, and he carried a “Bryce Strong” flag, reminding everyone of the cause they were supporting.

However, a few days ago, his family realized they were losing him.

But, no matter how deeply sorrowed they were by this realization, they still wanted to thank everyone who had been supporting them all this time and remind them what is important in life.

“Love on your children. Never take health, love, peace and kindness for granted,” the post read. “God is a good God and Bryce has accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. I know he will be just fine and will be looking over me and my family.”

Bryce’s mother shared that her son’s last words were “Mom, I won”, and indeed, he is a winner. He might have passed away, but he has definitely managed to have a positive impact on so many people’s lives.

We are sure his family will cherish the time they had with their special angel on earth, and we hope they stay #BryceStrong to overcome their loss.
