It’s official!
Dor Bahadur Khapangi, who lives in Nepal, is the shortest living male teenager, according to the Guinness World Records.
Born on November 14, 2004, Dor Bahadur Khapangi was measured on March 23, 2022 at Kathmandu, Nepal. His height comes in at 73.43 cm (2 ft 4.9 in).
Accompanied by his older brother, Nara Bahadur Khapangi, Dor was presented with the Guinness World Records certificate by Nepal Tourism Board CEO Dhananjay Regmi.
Because Dor was very shy, his brother was there as his spokesperson. And he shared that they were very happy with the certificate and recognition.
Dor lives in the Sindhuli district with his family. He is the youngest son of two Nepalese farmers, Takkar Bahadur Khapangi and Rana Maya, and this recognition is important because it can help Dor with the funds for his education.
He is currently studying first grade at their village school.
When asked if Dor had any medical conditions, Nara said they do not know.
“Dor Bahadur was all fine when he was born. He, however, did not grow from the age of seven. His peers grew but Dor Bahadur did not. We do not know why,” Nara told La Prensa Latina.
Hopefully, this recognition will help them receive the resources to find out why he stopped growing.
Although the comments section was full of sarcastic and unfunny jokes, it was also filled with messages of support, appreciation, and celebration.
There were still a lot of congratulatory messages, as well as wishes for more blessings and hope for a better future for him and his family.
Before Dor got this recognition, the record for the shortest living teenager was held by another Nepalese, Khagendra Thapa Magar. He stood at a height of 65.58 cm (2ft 1 inch).
Khagendra had primordial dwarfism at birth, which explained his short stature.
And when he turned 18, he was recognized as the shortest man alive. He died at the age of 27 in 2020.
When Khagendra passed away in 2020, Edward Niño Hernandez from Colombia took his spot as the shortest living man at 72.1 cm (2 ft 4.38 in).
But the record for the world’s shortest living person and shortest living woman belongs to Jyoti Amge of India. She measured at 62.8 cm (2 ft 0.72 in) and was given the recognition in 2009. She is now 28.
There are medical conditions that inhibit the growth of children, including primordial dwarfism (in the case of Khagendra) and Achondroplasia (in the case of Jyoti).
And there are some, like Dor and Niño, who do not know the exact reason for their stunted growth.
Riley Children’s Health explains that there are several health conditions that can be the reason for this.
These conditions include anemia, bone disease, celiac disease, kidney disease, Down syndrome, Noonan syndrome, Russell-Silver syndrome, hypopituitarism, hypothyroidism, and delayed puberty, among others.
And if there’s no medical cause, “it may be due to chronic health conditions, genetic conditions, or hormone deficiencies.”
