Janitor Walks Into Gym To Clean Mess But Instead Finds Assembly To Honor Him

In school, teachers and principals aren’t the only people that make the place safe for students. School janitors play a huge role too.

Eugene Hilton works as a janitor at Moody Elementary School in Alabama.

The man has done an excellent job looking after the school and the kids. Because of that, the entire school planned a special surprise for him.

Eugene was told that he had to clean up a mess in the school gymnasium.

Being the dedicated person that he is, he went to the area without question. He simply took his cleaning supplies and headed to the gym.

There, he found nearly a thousand kids aged four to nine.

Each of them was carrying gifts for him. And as soon as they saw Eugene, they started cheering.

They even had a large banner done for him. It said:

“Thank you Mr. Eugene for always lending a helping hand.”

The surprise moved the janitor to tears.

Even though it was National Custodial Workers Day, he didn’t expect everyone to pull out a surprise like that for him. It made him feel really special.

He deserved the surprise.

Eugene is kind to everyone. He greets students with fist bumps. He even asks the teachers how they’re doing every day. You can always see him smiling.

The surprise assembly was recorded and uploaded to YouTube.

There, it earned hundreds of positive comments. Reading them just warms the heart.

One YouTube viewer said:

The school did an excellent job making Mr. Eugene feel special. Even if he’s just the school janitor, it’s clear that he’s able to touch a lot of lives where he works. Teachers and students adore him for everything he does.

And just like them, we need to show more kindness to other people. The world needs it right now.
